ANANTA WELLNESS SUPPORT GROUP - A community initiative

Ananta wellness support Group- A community InitiativeAnanta has taken an initiative to provide an opportunity for people to share personal experiences, feelings, coping strategies and first-hand information about mental and emotional diseases or treatments. Our purpose is to support one another in dealing
with an issue or looking for healing strategies.

Apart from various other health issues, we would be emphasising and discussing on Fibromyalgia as well. And we will be encouraging and supporting people to open up and be able to speak their mind more confidently.

Fibromyalgia, also called fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia

People with fibromyalgia may have:

  • Increased sensitivity to pain
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Difficulty in sleeping
  • Problems with mental processes (known as “fibro-fog”), such as problems with memory and concentration
  • Headaches
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a digestive condition that causes stomach pain and bloating

How fibromyalgia is treated

Although there’s currently no cure for fibromyalgia, there are treatments to help relieve some of the symptoms and make the condition easier to live with.

Treatment tends to be a combination of:

  • Medicine, such as antidepressants and painkillers
  • Talking therapies, such as
    • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
    • Counselling
    • Life Coaching
  • Lifestyle changes, such as exercise programmes and relaxation techniques

Who's affected

Anyone can develop fibromyalgia. The condition typically develops between the ages of 30 and 50, but can occur in people of any age, including children and the elderly.

One of the main reasons it’s not clear how many people are affected is because fibromyalgia can be a difficult condition to diagnose.

There’s no specific test for the condition, and the symptoms can be similar to a number of other conditions.

Support group

Many people with fibromyalgia find that support groups provide an important network where they can talk to others living with the condition.

Ananta’s Wellness Support Group offers information and support to people with fibromyalgia.
